At Laser Cutting Shapes, we believe the precision of our technology is the perfect complement to artistic vision. We were honored earlier this year to partner with renowned artist John Sabraw (@john_sabraw) on a stunning new project for his solo exhibition.
The Project: "Glide" for the Canton Museum of Art
The artwork, titled “Glide,” was a central piece in Sabraw’s exhibition, Apeiron: A Solo Exhibition of New Artworks, which was on display at the Canton Museum of Art from April 29 to July 27, 2025.
For this installation, John envisioned a compelling mixed-media piece that incorporated a wooden boat. To complete his vision, he needed custom panels that would be integrated into the artwork. This is where the unique capabilities of laser cutting—and the quality of our materials—came into play.
Precision in Felt: Our Role in the Installation
Working closely with the artist, we used our high-quality Laser Felt EcoFelt material. Felt offers a soft, yet structurally sound, alternative to rigid materials, perfect for adding texture and depth to a contemporary art installation.
Using our advanced laser systems, we precisely cut six panels from the felt. The accuracy of the laser ensured that every panel had the exact dimensions and clean edges required for the final assembly. John then took the ready-to-install pieces and expertly assembled them for the museum display.
This project is a powerful example of how laser cutting extends beyond manufacturing and fabrication to become a critical tool for artists. It allows for complex, repetitive designs to be produced flawlessly, freeing the artist to focus on the overall concept and installation.
We are incredibly proud to see our work featured in such a respected venue. Congratulations to John Sabraw on a successful exhibition!
